One of the U.S. women’s national team’s prominent modern-day defenders is calling it a career.
Kelley O’Hara will retire from professional soccer at the conclusion of the 2024 NWSL season, U.S. Soccer announced Thursday. O’Hara featured in four FIFA Women’s World Cups and three Olympic Games for the USWNT, lifting a total of 19 combined trophies for her country.
“It has been one of the greatest joys to represent my country and to wear the U.S. Soccer crest,” said O’Hara. “As I close this chapter of my life, I am filled with gratitude. Looking back on my career I am so thankful for all the things I was able to accomplish but most importantly the people I was able to accomplish them with.”
The 35-year-old earned 160 USWNT caps, logging 10,287 minutes, scoring three goals and adding 21 assists. She was also a past standout for several U.S. women’s youth national teams.
O’Hara won the 2009 MAC Hermann Trophy at Stanford, featuring heavily as an attacking player for the Cardinal. She totaled 26 goals and 13 assists during that trophy-winning season.
At club level, O’Hara has logged 171 combined appearances for several NWSL teams including the NJ/NY Gotham, Washington Spirit, Utah Royals, and Sky Blue FC. She won two NWSL Championships in 2021 and 2023 respectively.
